Copper is alloyed with a harder metal to produce a warm, durable bit which aids salivation and is more palatable than stainless steel. The rings on the universal combine poll pressure and leverage for a milder gag action, which may be more suitable for sensitive horses. The lozenge breaks up the bit to alleviate the 'nut-cracker' action whilst applying additional pressure to the tongue to increase control.
