Pelham bits have a 'leverage' action when the lower shank is engaged which applies pressure to the horses head and face including the poll, curb and mouth. The squeezing pressure of a Pelham encourages horses to yield into a softer more responsive contact and head carriage which is desirable for more 'control'. The Mullen Mouthpiece in this bit is mild and comfortable for the horse to wear. This bit should ideally ridden with two reins (predominantly on the snaffle ring) with one rein attached to the snaffle and the other to the lower shank (to engage the leverage action), however, Pelham Roundings can be fitted to this bit to allow it to be ridden with just one rein.
